Domestic Violence

Domestic/intimate partner violence falls closer to physical violence, injury, and death at the end of the Johns Hopkins Continuum of Disruptive Behaviors at Work, along with other moderate to severely disruptive behaviors such as bullying, stalking, and stating threats. While domestic/intimate partner violence is a personal issue, it can become a safety issue if it escalates into the workplace. The controlling partner usually knows where and when the victim works and can easily visit.

Domestic abuse is not an accident or the result of stress, drinking, or drugs. Abuse is an intentional act that one person uses in a relationship to control the other. Domestic violence is a crime, not part of a culture.
