Communication and Support after a Critical Incident

Once a disruptive incident to the workplace has been managed by the Risk Assessment Team, it is important that there is adequate closure to the event. This may mean communicating that the immediate incident has been stabilized or resolved. Depending on the severity of the event, potential stakeholders who need this communication may include faculty, staff, students, families, patients, vistors, and community members. This may also mean taking steps to ensure continued or added safety and security.

In almost all cases, this will mean ensuring that victims of an event receive additional support, that coworkers or those who were witnesses to the event receive support, and that managers are given tools to properly deal with the aftermath and proactively respond.
