For Managers
A great place means a safe place to work and each of us has a role in both.
Increasingly, improper conduct enters the workplace and causes disruption. You may notice a range of disruptive behaviors, such as inappropriate and disrespectful actions, bullying, or verbal threats. Safe at Hopkins has developed a proactive way to think about, talk about, and manage these behaviors. It is important to understand that concerning behaviors left unchecked can escalate into violence.
A subcommitee of the Risk Assessment Team has developed the Johns Hopkins Continuum of Disruptive Behaviors at Work. You can use this tool to discuss, identify, and respond to concerning behaviors. The continuum brings expanded services from Safe at Hopkins that include consultation, invesitigation, recommendations, general awareness training, and early intervention training for managers. The goal of these services is to raise awareness and standardize the ways in which we think and talk about disruptive behavior so that we can all respond consistently and proactively.
As part of the Prevent Disruptive Behaviors at Work from Escalating communication campaign, we have created brochures that feature the Johns Hopkins Continuum of Disruptive Behaviors at Work. Please print copies of the brochure(s) as you need them. If you would like hard copies of the brochures, please the Workplace Risk Assessment program manager with details about which brochure(s) you would like, the quantities, and your campus address.
